OUR STORY

How Mumbai Mix came to be...

Mumbai Mix was lovingly created in 2014 by Mohini, Dimple and Deshna. A mother and daughter trio who love food, in fact, we actually have a PhD in it!

We combine authentic Indian and East African recipes from our cultures to create mouth-watering innovative Indian street food like you’ve never seen or tasted.

We serve fresh and hot masala dosa, biryani, kachoori, samosa, chutneys and chai. Using only freshly ground herbs and spices, freshly grated coconuts for chutneys, freshly ground lentils and rice for dosa and locally sourced fresh vegetables to make rich, home-made flavoursome food.

We care about the environment. All food is served in compostable containers.

Our food is vegan and all but two items are gluten free.

Mumbai Mix - MOHINI

MOHINI

Known for her charisma and witty nature, Mohini is also known to have built the “house of good food”. The heart of her home is the kitchen where she has spent endless hours creating mouth-watering dishes. She can raid a fridge and skilfully put together any set of ingredients (vegetarian of course!) to create the heartiest meals.

This versatility stems from her childhood where she hopped around neighbour’s kitchens to observe the different ways in which familiar dishes were prepared. A stickler for perfection – she only serves dishes that meet her very high standards!

Mumbai Mix - DESHNA

DESHNA

Known for her observant nature any dry sense of humour, Deshnas’ love affair with food started with the humble cheese on toast. She spent hours after school experimenting with ingredients and created unique versions every day of the week (only for them to be devoured by the whole family!).

It has always been her passion to work around food where she is able to create innovative and quirky dishes. This opportunity came when she broke away from her role as a Business Analyst. She founded Mumbai Mix in 2014 and has never looked back!

DIMPLE

Known for her composed yet mischievous nature, Dimple took her love for food a few steps further. She achieved a degree and doctorate in Nutrition & Dietetics and loves sharing her insight on all things food! She experiments with ingredients using her knowledge and adds an academic edge to the Mumbai Mix brand.

Taking a leaf from her mothers book, she also spends most of her family time in the heart of her home – the kitchen!

Introducing the Mumbai Mix Team

Hello from the Mumbai Mix team. Welcome to the first of our monthly blogs. For those of you that have not met us, we are Mohini, Deshna and Dimple – a mother and daughters team who are passionate about creating and serving scrumptious contemporary Indian street food. We serve our food at a number of street food stalls at keys locations around London.

As a team (and family), we have spent endless hours deconstructing and constructing recipes to create the Mumbai Mix menu – and continue to do so!

Our menu reflects our rich cultural background (Indian, African and British) where we have given a modern touch to traditional Indian recipes sold on the streets of Mumbai. We pay attention to every aspect of our menu from the choice to the sourcing of our ingredients. Most importantly, we are our own biggest critics and will only serve dishes that meet our very high standards!

Within this monthly blog, we will be sharing lots of innovative recipes giving you ideas on how to make yummy dishes using simple ingredients. Our resident dietitian, Dimple (PhD, RD), will shed some light on the nutritional properties of our dishes as well as offer nuggets of information on some of our ingredients. So don’t forget to check in every month to learn about all things Mumbai Mix 🙂
