Welcome to Mumbai Mix

Every recipe you'll find here has a story.

Long before Mumbai Mix became a website, these recipes were part of our family. They were cooked in busy kitchens, shared around crowded tables and passed from one generation to the next. They travelled with us from India to Kenya, then from Kenya to England, becoming part of our family's story along the way.

When we arrived in England, we wanted to share the food we loved. We opened our own street food stall, serving fresh dosas, Mumbai Toasties and authentic Indian vegetarian street food. Along the way, we met wonderful people, made lifelong friends and discovered that food has an incredible way of bringing complete strangers together.

Some customers came back every week. Others told us our food reminded them of home. Those conversations stayed with us because they reminded us that cooking is about much more than following a recipe. It's about sharing memories, traditions and a little piece of yourself with the people you love.

The recipes you'll find on Mumbai Mix are the same authentic Indian vegetarian recipes our family has cooked for generations. Some are everyday favourites that Mum made almost every week. Others were perfected during early mornings before opening the stall or after serving hundreds of customers. Every recipe has been cooked, tested and loved by our family before finding its way onto this website.

Today, we're opening that kitchen to you.

Whether you're discovering Indian vegetarian cooking for the first time, learning how to make the perfect dosa batter, mastering soft homemade chapatis or exploring traditional Indian cooking techniques, we want you to feel confident cooking authentic Indian food at home. Every recipe is written step by step, so whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced cook, you can cook with confidence.

As Mumbai Mix grows, you'll also find Indian cooking classes, carefully chosen kitchen equipment, trusted ingredients and healthy eating advice developed alongside our registered dietitian. Everything we share has one purpose, to help more people enjoy authentic Indian cooking at home.

Our food has even appeared on BBC Saturday Kitchen, something we're incredibly proud of. But if we're honest, the moments we treasure most aren't the ones on television.

They're the messages from people who tell us they cooked one of our recipes with their family, introduced their children to the food they grew up with, or created a brand-new family favourite around their own dinner table.

If Mumbai Mix becomes a small part of your family's story, then we've done exactly what we hoped it would.
